Abstract

This presentation investigates the intra-urban spatial structure of labour
market inequality. This has been difficult so far because of the requirement of
standardized data collection at a very fine spatial scale. We present the
potential of geocoded register data on the German labour market for
inequality research. The data cover the entire workforce liable to statutory
social security and all working-age social benefit recipients. We start our
analysis with a case study on the three largest German cities: Berlin,
Hamburg, and Munich. The three cities show distinctly shaped spatial
structures in social inequality.
