Abstract

UTS:Insearch is apathways provider preparing students from diverse language and learningbackgrounds for study in Australia, particularly at UTS. With educationincreasingly moving towards technology enhanced delivery we identified the needto use these approaches with our students, however as a starting pointidentified that for this to be successfully embedded into our subjects we wouldhave to create a technologically innovative teaching culture amongst ourteaching staff. In fostering this culture the organisation needed to clearlyarticulate the concept of ‘blended learning’ to our teaching staff. Followingthis a suite of strategies to engage teaching staff with diverse understandingsof technology enhanced teaching and the opportunities it offers for improvingstudents’ learning experiences and understanding were implemented. Thestrategies that were most successful were those that were ‘hands on’ andemployed blended learning approaches where teachers could experience first-handhow students could be engaged with content through the appropriate andmeaningful use of technologies. While the project is ongoing, the approach hasled to 76% of the learning strategies in our subjects either well progressed orfully compliant with a blended learning approach within a year.
